Blistering Heat
Heat is the word from the South to the southern half of the Plains.
A blistering heat wave that started last week is forecasted to hold strong well into the upcoming week.
Afternoon high temperatures will remain in the upper 90s to low 100s from the Carolinas to Texas on Sunday.
When these temperatures are factored with the dew point the resultant is called heat index and this is forecast to run between 110-120 along the Southeast Coast, 110-115 across the Ozarks, and 100-109 elsewhere around the South and Southeast on Sunday.
Overnight lows will provide little relief with temperatures running in the mid to upper 70s with a few locations only cooling to near 80 degrees.
Under the oppressive upper-level ridge of high pressure showers and thunderstorms will remain along the periphery of the ridge and not under it, where moisture is desperately needed to combat the drought east of the Mississippi.
There is little chance of widespread soaking rain across the drought stricken Southeast over the next few days.
The best chance of scattered thunderstorms on Sunday is along the Georgia Coast and across the Florida Peninsula.

It was blazing hot the last couple of days. It was well over 100 degrees this afternoon. We stayed inside most of the day watching movies and running the A/C and the ceiling fan. Even I got a little hot and I love the heat! . . . Rufus didn't mind it either, don't know how he does it but he stays outside and lays in the sun. We won't let him do it for to long so he won't dehydrate.
