4 Years of Living in the U.S.A.

On April 28th, 2005, exactly 4 years ago today my parents took me to the airport in Frankfurt, Germany and I began my journey to a new life. I was very excited and couldn't wait to be with my husband, then Fiance again. We got married in May, I filed for my Greencard and just had a good ole time. At first it felt like being on a long vacation, but that changed pretty quickly in August of 05. People started boarding up their houses, bought water and non-perishable foods in bulk, gased up their cars and called their relatives while watching the weather channel. Looking back, I have to say that I had no idea what the hell was going on. I was supposed to leave town with my in-laws but then changed my mind because I wasn't going to leave my husband behind. We stayed at the hospital for a while and were very fortunate that our house didn't flood.

It took forever for me to get my work permit, but I had already had a job lined up and started my first job in February of 2006.

Last year we had another little 'storm episode', that's just something you have to live with and adjust to, when living on the Gulf Coast.

Life has been really good ever since I decided to immigrate to the U.S. We bought a house, have great jobs, we got our Rufi, travel around the country, and went back to visit the Germans twice. I have to say that I don't really miss a whole lot other than my family and a few fresh Broetchen here and there. Home is where your Heart is and that is definetely here with my Husband and Rufus in the US.

My Mom still sends me a package every once in a while. I think she's afraid I'd forget the taste of German chocolate :) Thanks, Mom!

The Department of Homeland Security was so kind and send me my new Greencard just in time for our next cruise.

I am very excited to see what the next few years will have to bring - hopefully no more Hurricanes, I got my share!!

Dir da bereitet hatte, was? Aber schoen, dass die Hurricanes Dich nicht vertreiben konnten... irgendwann komme ich auch mal wieder dorthin und dann komm ich auf ein Kaeffchen vorbei. Ich bring auch die guten deutschen Broetchen mit :)
