We heard about this book on Anthony Bourdain's show on the Travel Channel. He came to visit NO two years after Katrina and met with Chris Rose, who is a writer for the Times Picayune and author of this book. Coincidentally I am reading the book during Hurricane Season with the 'ABC' storms out there. The book is a diary about the aftermath of Katrina, very well written with a little humor which keeps me pulling through when my eyes tear up remembering those crazy days.
We were very fortunate and didn't lose anything other than our food in the fridge and freezer, which doesn't even count as a loss compared to what some other folks lost.
Thinking back, it seems like a dream, a really bad one!! This entire city was upside down, it took weeks for restaurants and stores to re-open, someone bringing you a burger from McDonald seemed like Christmas and Easter happening in the same day.
To me, this is one of the best books I've read, and would recommend it highly, although I am not sure if someone who hasn't lived here during those times would quite understand.
Please keep your fingers crossed that we don't have to go through anything like this ever again.
We've been keeping an eye on the ABC storms, and of course on dem Saints. They played their 1st pre-season game last Friday. We had some friends over for Beer and Pizza, and had a great time.
We are also working on closing in the garage, gotta have a project so life won't get boring :)
Rufus is doing fine, glad we didn't drag him anywhere this weekend, he's all about the Black and Gold and very happy on his couch.
