Bad news for Rufus

We brought Rufus to the vet yesterday morning because the limping didn't get any better. The vet called us and said that we need to bring him to a surgeon. Apparently his knee cap pops out and he pops it back in. From doing this some of his bone wore off. He suggested we bring him to a vet in Baton Rouge. So off we went, we took poor Rufi, put him in the car which he absolutely hates and brought him to Baton Rouge. The vet examined him and came up with the same diagnosis. They kind of gave us 3 options, give him anti-inflammatories, have surgery which many people can't afford, or later they could take off the leg if the anti-inflammatories don't work anymore. NO WAY!!! . . . His surgery is scheduled for Wednesday morning. We left him in Baton Rouge for the night since there was no sense in taking him back home and then bringing him back to Baton Rouge Wednesday morning or Tuesday night. We took this picture in the vets office. They had a few kitties running around, Rufus didn't really care for them. He just wanted to know what was going on. He seemed a little scared and clingy almost as if he knew something was wrong.




We will probably be able to pick him up either Friday or Saturday. The full recovery will take about 8 weeks. We have already decided that its best if he will stay with our vet here for another week or so. He likes it there and he can't be jumping around, we need to keep him on a leash for the full 8 wks to avoid him running and jumping until he's completely healed. There is just no way we could do this at home, not for the 1st week or two.

We may be bringing him home after christmas. Mom and Dad will be here and they will be able to take care of him while we are at work.

I feel really bad for him because he's been in pain and will be after the surgery. We just have to keep him still so he'll heal and we don't have to do the surgery again. The surgery is expensive and this has to be fixed with one surgery.


I made Christmas cookies and mailed some cards out last weeked, I will post some delicious pictures later. We are both a little upset right now and try to keep ourselves occupied. Hopefully we'll have our Rufpunzel back, soon. It's just not the same around here without him.
